Caucasian Rugs

Caucasian Rugs

Caucasian rugs are made in one of two major rug producing areas in Central Asia (the other being the Turkoman region) and are both recognized for the high quality weaves of their respective nomadic tribes. Caucasian rugs are made in this difficult mountainous area between the Caspian and Black Seas and, although the region now belongs to the USSR, it has been home to many different tribes from Turkey, Armenia and Persia, all of which have contributed to its rich and storied heritage. Caucasian rugs produced in this area of the world feature definite geometric overall design, along with the addition of artistic and natural figures such as birds and flowers. Examples made in the Turkestan region between the Caspian sea and north-western China, feature works of art  made by the various Afghani, Baluchi and Beshir tribesmen, all incorporating  a similar geometric style and unique patterning.
Caucasian rugs, with their highly distinctive and creative use of colors, simple yet elegant childlike figures and expressive and elaborately decorated borders, are welcome additions to any room of your home. These rugs are naturally appealing and possess a  simplistic and inviting charm and will work well in traditional and modern settings and are adaptable enough for contemporary or even traditional homes. The simplicity of patterns as well as use of colors makes them easy to work with. Designers and decorators will frequently use these to bring instant warmth and color to an otherwise drab and dreary area. Collectors of fine antiques the world over will proudly display these as either wall hangings or in areas of the home with less traffic, representing these for what they truly are... presentations of artistic expressions rarely seen today.
