Kevin O'Brien Rugs Bring Buzz to Capel Showroom
Troy, N.C. — Capel Rugs enjoyed a busy High Point Market this month as retailers responded enthusiastically to a variety of high-value, on-trend rug introductions.

Leading the way were several new machine-made additions to the licensed Kevin O’Brien line. They included Fiore, a new Wilton-woven, machine-made traditional design with a paisley motif in three colorways — flagstone, marcasite and Adriatic blue; and Willow, a nature-inspired design in azul and champagne colorways with a one-half inch pile. A mix of 50% polyester and 50% olefin, Fiore may retail for $449 for a 5’3” x 7’6” model; Willow, in olefin, may retail for $599 for that same size.

“Retailers were really excited about our Kevin O’Brien designs,” said Cameron Capel, president – sales and marketing for Capel Rugs. “They loved the subtle, soft texture of Fiore, as well as the intricate construction and color. Willow also was a big hit, with retailers responding to its made-in-the-USA Wilton construction and very fashionable design.”

Capel Rugs displayed a total of four new Kevin O’Brien designs in a special vignette in the front of its showroom during market, along with a variety of other textiles created by the Kevin O’Brien Studio, such as decorative pillows, bedding and throws. Capel Rugs’ other two new Kevin O’Brien rug models were Gilded Age and Brushstrokes.

“Customers loved the new Finesse-Lattice designs, especially the lovely fleur-de-lis motif that appears in a few select spots on each rug,” Capel said. “It’s kind of hidden, which makes it an unexpected surprise.”

Capel Rugs also added a new easy-care rug with Sunbrella border that uses an exclusive Biltmore® by Castelle fabric.

At market, Capel Rugs’ flagship line of Capel-branded products also was expanded with a number of fresh imported designs. Introductions include two new transitional patterns added to the Metropolis collection — Carthage and Sojourn. Machine made in Moldova on Wilton looms, Metropolis features 100% New Zealand wool in three colorways. Carthage is available in smoky blue, and Sojourn offers the option of moonstruck or portico beige. A 5’3” x 7’6” rug may retail for $449.

Finesse Lattice
Also showcased in a vignette at market was Finesse Lattice, a new fashion-forward design added to the Biltmore® For Your Home program. Machine woven in Belgium of 100% olefin, Finesse Lattice is a transitional rug with a lively geometric pattern. The outdoor-friendly design is available in five on-trend colorways, and a 5’3” x 7’6” model may retail for $149.

Milagros
Capel Rugs’ other well-received introductions this market included Milagros, a luxe transitional design in three weathered colorways — graystone, charcoal and blue steel. Machine woven in Turkey on Wilton looms, Milagros features 50% olefin and 50% polyester shrink yarns with a plush, hi-lo pile texture. A 5’3” x 7’6” rug may retail for $449.

Willow
A new edition to the licensed Kevin O'Brien line, Willow is a nature-inspired design in azul and champagne colorways with a one-half inch pile. Willow, in olefin, may retail for $599 for a 5’3” x 7’6” model.

Gilded Age
One of the new introductions in the Kevin O'Brien line, Gilded Age is an updated brocade design with a painterly hand in three colorways made of 100% New Zealand wool. A 5'3" x 7'6" rug retails for $599.

Brushstrokes
Brushstrokes is one of the four new Kevin O'Brien designs introduced in a special vignette during market. It is a casual/transitional design in durable polyester and olefin with a half-inch pile in three colorways - Prussian Blue, Marble and Charcoal. A 5'3" x 7'6" rug may retail for $449.

This market, Capel Rugs also expanded its thick, soft Worthington collection with two new colorways — seafoam and lake blue. Casual yet sophisticated, the Worthington braids are constructed on shuttle looms in the U.S. and perfect for a wide range of room settings.

“We had a very solid market,” said Capel. “Like most exhibitors, our traffic was down slightly but we still generated a lot of activity thanks to our fresh designs and always-strong values. Business remains challenging for many retailers, so we’re doing all we can to provide them with unique, affordable products that can help them generate traffic and sales.”
