Balancing Security and Sustainability

You are cordially invited to attend Balancing Security and Sustainability, a presentation sponsored by the Federal Facilities Council. The guest speaker, Richard Paradis, P.E., BSCP, will address the collaborative approach that is needed to balance multiple, and often competing, project goals. He will also briefly discuss GSA's Site Security Design Guide and the education program being developed for GSA by SBIC. Finally, Mr. Paradis' presentation will highlight the many resources and tools available through the Whole Building Design Guide.

The presentation will be delivered on Wednesday, July 2, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. in Room 101 of the Keck Center of the National Academies, 500 Fifth Street, NW, Washington, DC. A meeting of the Federal Facilities Council Physical Security and Hazard Mitigation Committee will follow.

About the Speaker

Richard Paradis, P.E., BSCP is the Manager of SBIC's Federal Buildings Program. He is a co-developer of the Whole Building Design Guide and has extensive knowledge of the integrated design process, sustainable design principles, facility security, acoustics and energy efficient products and systems. He is project manager, curriculum developer, and a presenter for the workshop series Beyond Green - A High-Performance Approach to Building Design, Construction and Operations and its predecessor Design Strategies for Low-Energy, Sustainable, Secure Buildings. He has presented at a number or conferences including Arc-US, Construct 2009, Ecobuild America, and the Federal Environmental symposiums.
